Project Overview

University of Warwick (UoW) want to build an innovative world-class building bringing faculties together: Interdisciplinary Biomedical Research Building (IBRB). They want to push boundaries of what is possible in construction and, with a key driver to minimise disruption to the live campus, committed to 50% of the build being completed offsite.
NG Bailey (NGB) embraced an offsite strategy early meaning the consolidation of multiple smaller risers into one centralised core (a "mega riser") ensured maximum positive impact on onsite construction activities and programme.

The 22.5m (H) x 5m (W) x 4m (D) multi-service riser provides services distribution from the plantroom. It is the largest riser NGB and Willmott Dixon (WD) have ever manufactured and installed, taking 2 days to install compared to 15 weeks traditionally. The solution removed 9,000 site labour hours greatly improving health and safety, and contributed to NGB Offsite being RIDDOR-free for 8 years.
