Project Overview
Hollinwood Academy is a purpose built facility providing education for students on the autistic spectrum from ages 4 - 19 years of age. It was required to be completed within very tight budget and programme constraints due to the particular conditions of the central government grant which was funding its provision along with an acute demand for the special educational needs places being provided. This project was required to come from a total cold start position of zero information due to waiting for both sponsor and site selection to be approved by the Department of Education / Secretary of State. From approval in February 2014 there were only 18 months to design, procure, construct, fit out and financially complete a new school ready for pupil intake in September 2015. Building comprises: 14 individual year group rooms with integral built-in storage; subject specific teaching spaces (Food Technology, ICT and Art); continual secure outdoor provision to ground floor teaching spaces with first floor reflection balconies for year group rooms; withdrawal spaces for pupils; staff offices and preparation areas; conferencing facilities; sports hall and changing facilities to be used by Trust and community; all loose furniture required for operation of school facilities. Offsite construction utilised for main teaching block comprising 78nr modules with adjoining 'traditional' construction dining hall, sports hall and Trust operated community shop units
