Project Overview
Alternative Heat (AH) were engaged by main contractor Mace Group and mechanical contractor Dornan Engineering in Spring 2020 as a specialist prefabrication subcontractor on a major data centre expansion in the Republic of Ireland for a confidential blue-chip client. Due to Covid-19 concerns, all on site construction activity had ceased at client request to protect the health and safety of construction workers and the wider community. AH reviewed existing traditional build programme, identified areas for prefabrication and developed and delivered a prefabrication package to maximise the scope of works removed from site and minimise negative impact that a site wide shutdown would have on the project programme. This enabled the 16No. MEP rooftop plantrooms to be delivered fully fabricated, commissioned, and run tested in line with original project programme, negating a 4-month overrun due to lockdown site closures had traditional build programme remained. AH in-house design teams were able to develop and integrate key design innovations to enhance product design, operational capability, and lifespan, as well as develop an extensive QA and commissioning programme to guarantee a defect free product with optimum system performance.
