X-LAM Alliance, Hawkins/Brown and Engenuiti Crowned Winner of Winners at the Offsite Construction Awards

2nd December, 2015

Last night’s Offsite Construction Awards proved to be a huge success for the X-LAM Alliance, where they – along with development partners Hawkins/Brown and Engenuiti – were announced ‘Winner of Winners’ for their record breaking timber tower, Banyan Wharf, Wenlock Road.

Banyan Wharf has gained a tremendous amount of recognition as it has taken the title of the tallest hybrid cross laminated timber residential building in Europe at a ground-breaking 10 storeys high. This impressive Regal Homes development in London provides 50 one, two and three bedroom apartments – all sold off plan, prior to completion.

Using timber technology as the core structural component was the preferred option for the build due to Hackney’s commitment to creating more sustainable buildings. Cross laminated timber is becoming increasingly recognised in medium rise developments and the X-LAM Alliance continue to push the boundaries of this pioneering material.

“I am proud to have played a part in the inaugural Offsite Construction Awards. I have been blown away by the breadth and quality of entries received.

It is truly inspiring to see so much activity in the sector and to witness so many boundaries being pushed. The depth of expertise across all categories was impressive and the exceptional number of entries (over 145) clearly demonstrates the upturn in the industry. Banywan Wharf, Wenlock Road is a phenomenal project in very way – a true ground-breaker that has set the benchmark for others to follow on from.”

The Offsite Construction Awards mark the end of a victorious year for the X-LAM Alliance, in which Banyan Wharf celebrated Outstanding Architectural Merit at the Evening Standard New Homes Awards for architects Hawkins/Brown. The timber tower also took home the Innovation Award at this year’s East Midlands Celebrating Construction Awards.
