The prestigious award, which rewards and promotes environmental best practice from around the world, recognises Saint-Gobain’s valuable contribution to BRE’s Home Quality Mark (HQM), the national quality mark launched this year to provide impartial information on the quality and sustainability of new homes.
Designed to transform the way consumers choose the homes they buy and rent and allow house builders to differentiate themselves in the marketplace, the new 5-star rating relies on independent, fully trained and licensed professionals, who assess and score a wide range of aspects of a new home to give an overall quality rating. The rating also makes it easy to compare different homes in terms of their overall performance.
Commenting on the distinction, Mark Allen, Technical Director at Saint-Gobain, says: “Winning a Green Apple Award on its own is amazing, but winning it for our involvement in the HQM makes it even more special, as this project was all about putting in practice Saint-Gobain’s years of research and expertise on indoor environmental qualities to form future sustainable habitats. Our work with the BRE also helped to lead to the creation of the MULTICOMFORT building standard, the holistic approach to providing buildings that benefit occupant comfort, health and wellbeing.”
