Portakabin Group has been named UK Private Business of the Year at PwC's sixth annual UK Private Business Awards, one of three Yorkshire companies to be recognised at the event.
Portakabin, which designs and makes modular buildings and off-site construction, employs more than 1,700 staff and operates in seven countries across Europe.
Two other Yorkshire-based companies were also winners with Harrison Spinks Beds, the Leeds-based manufacturer of mattresses which are assembled by hand with all the components spun, woven, coiled or fabricated on the same site, winning The Family Business of the Year.
Steeton-based Acorn Stairlifts, which has been designing, making and installing stairlifts for more than 20 years and is now the largest company in the world specialising solely in making stairlifts, was also recognised and walked away with the International Business of the Year award.
Brian Henderson, partner and UK Private Business Awards' leader at PwC, said: "Congratulations to Portakabin for winning the flagship Private Business of the Year award.
"The group has a fantastic heritage and has a long-standing pivotal role in both the UK construction industry and in British manufacturing. It continues to be the pioneer in off-site construction and to break new ground with the speed, scale, complexity, efficiency and sustainability of its building solutions."
The UK Private Business Awards recognise achievements and the important contribution that entrepreneurs and private businesses make to their community and the UK economy.
The finalists were selected from more than 1,000 entries from private businesses across the UK.
