Plans in for Manchester 56-storey twin towers resi scheme

24th March, 2021

Plans have been submitted to build twin 56-storey skyscrapers in the emerging Great Jackson Street cluster of Manchester.

The flat-top residential towers designed by architect Hodders and Partners will provide over 1,000 build to rent apartments for the city.

Subject to planning, demolition of existing warehouse buildings at the site could start shortly, with completion of the £260m construction project targeted for 2025.

Enabling works would involve the relocation of a major sewer that runs directly below the site. Developer Great Jackson St Estates explained that funding these civils works necessitated a high volume massing of the project.

The Jackson Street and Mancunian Way towers will each house around 520 flats ranging from 1-3 bedrooms.

Financial modelling suggests the 790,000 sq ft project would generate a rental income of around £16m annually.
