Central Housing Investment Consortium (CHIC) and Efficiency East Midlands (EEM) have launched their off-site manufacture (OSM) framework for affordable housing to their 85 members.
CHIC and EEM have appointed Modular Space to provide fully fitted modular housing systems, and Stewart Milne to provide timber frame and panel solutions. They have also procured design, cost and construction services to support the development of these homes, appointing 11 architects, nine client representatives and 12 contractors to geographical frameworks.
Members are now working on projects and planning applications for the first of the homes being prepared through the OSM framework.
This is the latest in a series of initiatives by consortiums to develop offsite-manufactured housing solutions to meet housing supply shortages.
Laing O'Rourke is working with a 22-member consortium to develop a £100m home manufacturing facility, while YMCA is working with partners including architect Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners (RSHP) to extend its modular Y:Cube low-cost housing concept, trialled in south west London.
Latest thinking in offsite will be discussed at the conference, Explore Offsite in the Housing Sector, taking place at the NEC, Birmingham on 23 and 24 March. Speakers at the event will include: Tom Bloxham, director of Urban Splash; Rory Bergin, partner - sustainable futures, HTA Design; Jay Shaw, head of business development at Snoozebox; and Jeff Endean of Lewisham Council's Housing Matters, which is working with RSHP on the UK's first 'pop-up village' at PLACE/Ladywell, where units are being put in place on site this month.
