Finnish CLT Plant Ltd is ready to start up a cross-laminated timber factory in Kauhajoki, as to begin the manufacture of CLT elements from Finnish wood.
The majority of the production would be of pre-machined plates, as CLT Plant Board of Directors chairman, Keijo Attic, said.
Net sales for the next five years are expected to reach over EUR 20 million, while approximately 150 people were employed for the new factory. The total investment rose up to EUR 11.8 million.
Attic stated that the CLT demand in Finland already exceeds the supply and the construction projects have had to be postponed due to the poor availability of materials. Moreover, besides the domestic demand, there is increased demand for CLT exports.
The plant in Kauhajoki is expected to begin operations in the autumn of 2017 and start the CLT sales in the spring of 2018.
CLT is used as a versatile construction material. The main potential use is for high apartment building.
