In order to meet the demands that the government are placing on the market to increase the housing stock in the UK, offsite housing will become an ever more popular solution with the promises of quality and speed of delivery.
Factory built housing addresses the shortfall in skilled labour, and increases build quality and consistency, and can speed-up the final handover process with the new home owner.
In order to fulfil the offsite market potential there needs to be a recognised and standardised route for end product acceptance to enable the properties to be guaranteed by the insurers, warrantied by the appropriate body and mortgaged by the banks.
Currently there is no common and recognised route that allows the structural, environmental and fire performance of the panels and finished modules to be assessed. This is also the case for the continued quality of the build within the factory. The international standards available provide general guidance which allows interpretation by the manufacturer; these can differ from what is expected by insurance bodies.
Lucideon has a unique position within the industry to be able to assess and understand the different routes available for the manufacturer to gain market acceptance. Ultimately, each system needs to be investigated individually using a customised test programme to assess the performance and justify the manufacturer's claims.
Lucideon is hosting a free-to-attend webinar detailing various routes to market, including sampling relevant parts from Eurocodes and European Technical Assessments (ETAs), third party certification bodies, specialist test houses, and desk studies. The options will be put into context with the requirements of proof of performance from insurance bodies such as NHBC, Premier Guarantee and BOPAS. The webinar is taking place on Thursday 08 November 2018 at 15:00 UK time (10:00 EST).
