Legal & General's modular homes hit delays

26th September, 2016

Units won’t roll off the production line until next year

Investor Legal & General’s plans to deliver homes from the world’s largest prefab homes factory have fallen more than six months behind.

According to a report in the Times, the first modular units will not come off the production line until early next year.

Legal & General - which bought a giant warehouse near Leeds in the spring for producing the homes - had wanted to deliver the first complete homes in June this year.

Delays to delivery and installation of manufacturing equipment and an over-ambitious timetable were cited as reasons.

Legal & General is planning to deliver around 3,000 homes a year once its factory is up and running. The first units will go to the investor’s planned development in Crowthorne, Berkshire.

Legal & General told the Times: “We’re happy with progress […] Fit-out is virtually complete, building of prototypes will commence shortly and homes will be rolling of the production line in the new year.”
