Kingspan Timber Solutions Announced as Finalists of the Structural Timber Awards

29th July, 2016

The Structural Timber Awards rewards outstanding projects, innovative products and dynamic people that are promoting excellence in structural timber arena across the UK. Kingspan Timber Solutions has announced that the company has been shortlisted in no less than three categories – Social Housing, Healthcare and Product Marketing, plus the Company’s self build brand, Potton, has reached the finals of the self build category.

Ian Loughnane, Business Unit Director for Kingspan Timber Solutions, said of the news: “It is a great accolade to reach the finals and it is testament of the innovative team here, that we have been shortlisted in so many categories. I believe there was over two hundred entries to these prestigious awards, making this a great achievement for all those who have been announced as finalists.”

Kingspan Timber Solutions reached the finals of the following categories for:

Social Housing

The development of eight affordable social housing apartments on Castle Street, Dover, is an outstanding example of collaboration between the Dover District Council, Jenner (Contractors) Ltd and Kingspan Timber Solutions, who provided specialist services to design, manufacture and install the company’s high performance Kingspan TEK® a structural insulated panel system (SIPs).

The project was the first step towards regenerating the area of St. James’ Street, with new retail outlets, restaurants and further houses planned. The purpose built apartments, set in a conservation area, were developed to provide compact accommodation for the retired residents of the Dover.

Healthcare

The 5 Boroughs Partnership is an organisation that provides specialist mental health and learning disability services and associated support for carers around Wigan. On behalf of the Partnership, main contractor Kier Group, appointed Kingspan Timber Solutions as part of the development team for the new £40million Atherleigh Park Hospital mental health facility - designed to accommodate up to 48 inpatients as well as a full outpatient service.

Kingspan Timber Solutions were selected to provide their Kingspan TEK® and Kingspan TEK® Cladding for the project. Kingspan TEK® - a Structural Insulated Panel System was used as part of a hybrid structural frame solution for the first phase of the project. The construction and materials used in mental health facilities are at the core of how care is ultimately delivered – a critical factor with a direct effect on the physical and psychological wellbeing of the end-users. Timber technology can be highly beneficial in this environment.

Product Marketing

Kingspan Timber Solutions appointed Radar Communications to develop a fully integrated marketing, PR and social Media campaign to promote 'High Performance Building Envelopes' featuring the renowned Kingspan TEK® SIP system. For the first time, as part of this campaign, Kingspan Timber solutions opened the doors of their Selby Kingspan TEK® factory to construction professionals to engage directly with architects and specifiers.

To meet the business imperative of Kingspan Timber Solutions and the requirements outlined in the brief, it was essential to adopt an integrated approach when developing and delivering this campaign. Only by identifying key business development objectives, USP’s and communication goals, could a valid communications strategy be developed to underpin ambitions for future growth. This highly target and integrated approach paid dividends generating feature articles across key target media, increasing follows on Twitter and connection on Linkedin which in turn translated into enquires and sales leads for the KTS business development team.

Self Build

And finally the Company’s self build brand Potton, has been shortlisted in the self build category for a stylish and energy efficient private home they developed on the Isle of Man using Kingspan TEK® as the core structural solution. Their client’s wanted to build a home to their very own design and specification without compromise. They wanted a contemporary yet simple design, providing open plan living featuring lots of glass to maximise the views across the Isle of Man.

When asked, would you do it again - the couple replied: “Yes - Potton supplied an all-round terrific service, if we were to do it again we would certainly use them again and would certainly recommend them to others."

The 2016 Awards will be presented at a high profile dinner on 19 October 2016 at The National Motorcycle Museum, Birmingham.
