Construction project is Halton Housing Trust's first to be done in-house

Work has started on the construction of low-carbon timber-frame homes in Runcorn.

The project is the first time in Halton Housing Trust’s history that homes the will be built in-house using the group’s property services team install of an external contractor.

It has teamed up with Walsall-based manufacturer LoCaL Homes, a producer of sustainable low carbon housing, to construct the £500,000 four-home terrace on Grangeway to provide much needed ‘affordable housing’ for residents.

As part of the Grange House project, timber frames will be manufactured off-site to the trust’s specifications then constructed on-site to form the house structure.

John Dale, Halton Housing Trust operations manager, said: “This partnership marks the start of an exciting development for the delivery of homes in the borough.

“Providing high performance, high quality homes in Runcorn and Widnes is a priority for the trust as we aim to build more innovative, flexible and efficient homes for a wider group of people.

“Building homes in this way is a first for the trust and I’m confident that our team will do a fantastic job.

“We hope this pilot showcases a new way of construction, and one which we are very likely to use in the future.”
