A brand new residential development is nearing completion in Kinnear Road, North Edinburgh. Incorporated in the sixteen apartment building is 3,000m² of FP McCann's precast concrete hollowcore and solid plank flooring, supplied from the company's nearby Uddingston manufacturing facility and installed by the Scotland based FP McCann fixing team.

Working on behalf of main building contractor and structural steel frame installer, AMA Construction, FP McCann's installation team utilised the on-site tower crane to install the 200mm deep prestressed hollowcore and 100mm deep prestressed solid slab, with the solid slab being used to form the balconies to each apartment. A perimeter edge trim was fixed to the top of the structural steel beams, along with the progressive collapse tie details and concreting works to the top of the slab level.

The hollowcore floor has been designed to accommodate a 3.0KN/m² imposed load, with some slab soffits left as an exposed concrete finish in the underground car parking area. The flooring was installed over a five week period and has a fire rating up to two hours.

This project also incorporates over fifty tonnes of FP McCann's precast concrete stairs, landings and plinths. The self-compacting concrete and steel moulds used in the manufacture provides a smooth quality finish that can be left exposed or painted.

Speaking on behalf of AMA Construction, site manager Bill Armstrong says, "The precast, prestressed concrete hollowcore planks and reinforced solid composite flooring specified as part of the design and build were all supplied to the highest standard on a just-in-time delivery schedule. The FP McCann contracting team undertook the work in a safe and efficient manner, completing the installation to programme."
