East Yorkshire manufacturer brings innovative products to Hull's social housing mix

23rd March, 2015

A MANUFACTURER  that has won lucrative contracts around the UK is now launching its latest innovation closer to home in Hull.

Over the past few years, East Yorkshire firm Premier Interlink has provided modular buildings for prestigious projects nationwide, including a new birthing centre for Scotland's biggest and busiest maternity unit, eight schools across Brent and Westminster and about £20m of work linked to the London 2012 Olympics.

Last week, a five-storey 240- bed student accommodation block left its Brandesburton factory, destined for Newcastle.
Now the firm is working on a contract to deliver Hull's first "code five" social housing for the city-based Goodwin Development Project.

Five energy-efficient modular homes are being manufactured at the company's base, due for delivery on to the Great Thornton Estate  this month, with a further 22 in the pipeline.

The project will include features such as communal rainwater harvesting tanks, triple-glazed windows and photovoltaic (PV) panels, making them some of the most energy-efficient homes in the country.

Divisional director David Harris said: "Our business has changed massively over the past three years, with turnover up by about 50 per cent.

"One of our latest products is social housing, which has been designed to be thermally-efficient andcost-effective  as well as visually appealing.

"We have been working with Jonathan Wilson from the Goodwin Development Trust for about 18 months to develop this product and we are very excited about how it fits in with the future  of our business."

Based on the former Catfoss Airfield, Premier Interlink is a UK market leader in modular building hire and construction .
Locally, the firm boasts about 150 permanent employees, however, a burgeoning workload has seen this figure topped up to more than 200 staff.

"We currently have well over 200 people working here and have done for more than 12 months," said Mr Harris.
"We are in the process of taking on more people, particularly in professional roles such as procurement and design, and we have a number of apprentices we are training up.

"The board has just signed off more capital expenditure, which will enable us to expand our asset base and capitalise on opportunities.

"Previously, we were bidding predominantly for contracts worth between £1m and £2m, whereas this gives us scope to bid for projects of between £6m and £20m."
