Having been announced finalists in two categories for the East Midlands Celebrating Construction Awards 2019, EOS will be attending the awards ceremony on Friday 10th May. Building professionals will gather at the Nottingham Belfry to celebrate the best of the East Midlands' construction projects and await announcement of the winners.
It has been noted that the entries are reflective of recent improvements in economic indicators for the region, which have led to improved confidence in the construction industry. EOS are finalists for the Health & Safety Award and the Offsite Project of the Year, both for the outstanding Sarah Swift Building, which has recently been crowned 'Healthcare Project of the Year' at the Offsite Construction Awards.
The Sarah Swift Building
Named after Lincolnshire-born Dame Sarah Swift, the new academic building houses the University of Lincoln's School of Health and Social Care and School of Psychology. The £19 million building accommodates a broad range of research and learning spaces, including nurse training facilities, laboratories, teaching areas and offices. These spaces enhance student learning and support continued growth in the disciplines while supporting the university's world-class research and development programme.
As vibration-sensitive equipment is stored in the five-storey building, it was of utmost importance to achieve specific environmental conditions, vibration levels and acoustic separation for a variety of functions. The engineering team developed 3D models of each room at an early stage to ensure users' requirements were clearly secured. This resulted in a flat slab structural design that enabled the straightforward installation of services and permitted greater flexibility for future use.
