Collaboration required to ensure that Offsite thrives

16th December, 2021

We are in the process of a major shift in how we build our homes, hospitals, schools and other buildings here in the UK. This is happening right across the world in one way or another and for very valid reasons.

The global pandemic mixed with visible climate change has come together to form a perfect storm and has really highlighted that we need to do a lot of things differently. By working together and in a controlled environment we can achieve so much more than doing this alone.

We have recently joined the Offsite Alliance. The idea behind this not-for-profit organization is that we can all collectively come together with our little piece of the puzzle and join everything together to form a full solution for modular companies in the future. We do this through collaborative meetings, think-tanks and by bringing our ideas to the table at any-time.

There is still a very long way to go, but with every passing day we get closer to MMC, and modular construction being accepted as an excellent solution to help reduce carbon emissions, attract new blood into the industry with improved working conditions and build homes a lot faster than traditional.

Training is going to play a big part in the future, so it’s important that the necessary skills are available for anyone wanting to come into this industry.

We here at Nulok are more than happy to work with your factory teams to train them on the simple and fast installation of our slate, tile and solar system. This can be done both onsite and 100% offsite too. This system is recyclable, will reduce material waste, and offer your clients a robust slate, tile or solar roof that is lightweight, A1 Fire rated and very low maintenance. A damaged tile or slate can be replaced in less than 15 seconds!

Like I said at the start of this, we all have a little piece of the puzzle, so it’s important to bring it to the table and ensure that people know what their options are.

Over the last 18 months we have been working with TopHat by supplying our roofing system to them for their award-winning project for Medway Council in Kent, and more recently we have supplied our system and natural slate for their first project for BokLok. For those not familiar with BokLok, this is a home ownership concept developed by Skanska and IKEA. This is a tried, tested and very successful partnership from these two companies throughout Scandinavian countries like Finland, Norway and Sweden.

Due to the exposure and success that we have had on them projects, we are now assisting several other modular and companies with a focus on MMC with their roofing needs.

With the imminent uplift in housing standards and in particular Part L changes, there has never been a better time to speak to us about your roofing requirements. Our system brings together recyclable and natural materials and renewable technologies to give you a low maintenance, robust and beautiful roof finish which can be installed at speed and won't cost the earth to do so. - Matthew Ralston – Business Development and Marketing Manager – Nulok Global Ltd.
