Canary Wharf shifts to offsite build for next tower

14th May, 2020

Canary Wharf Group has signed up volumetric specialist Caledonian to build a 20-storey block of flats at its Wood Wharf site in London Docklands.

The 279 apartment tower at One Charter Street will provide a gateway to the new Wood Wharf district.

An open and collaborative approach between Canary Wharf Group, Caledonian, design partners HTA, Holloway Li and TUV-SUD drove the precision manufactured design that maximises levels of offsite completion and significantly reduces onsite resource and programme.

Caledonian will provide high-quality volumetric modular serviced flats above a lower three-floor podium of retail/amenity space.

Two full-height concrete cores will provide structural stability and the scheme will be crowned with a rooftop restaurant.

Steel-framed modules will be manufactured at Caledonian’s 40-acre manufacturing facility in Newark, Nottinghamshire. Each room will be completed to a very high standard including fitting of furniture, bathrooms, kitchens and en-suite facilities prior to transport.

It is Caledonian’s first job for the Docklands developer and contributes to its current secured pipeline in excess of £200m.
