Brian Conneely forms modular housing joint venture with SG Modular

Irish engineering firm Brian Conneely and Turkey-headquartered modular house manufacturer SG Modular have joined up to deliver modular homes into Ireland and the UK through a new joint venture, SG Conneely, based in Ireland.

According to SG Modular chief executive Stephen McQueenie the firm, which already manufactures modular office and utility space in Turkey, hopes to be able to deliver its first batch of homes into Ireland next month, with homes going into sites in the UK soon after that.

“We’ve developed a range of small, low-cost houses called Annexa designed for the registered providers market, as well as commercial developers,” he told Housing Today.

“A critical element is the technology has to be flexible enough to meet the client’s needs, so we can deliver the walls and the roof, right the way through to completed homes, delivered in a flatpack format, all ready to be erected in site to water-tightness within two days,” McQueenie said.

The first homes being delivered to a site on the west coast of Ireland next month would comprise of bungalows ranging between 50m² and 60m², although McQueenie said his firm could manufacture and deliver homes sized anywhere between 35m² and 100m².

Production is across SG Modular’s three factories in Turkey, but McQuneenie said transport and logistics weren’t an issue. “The technology is designed for travel. We can deliver onsite from an order within six to eight weeks, and transport costs per house are around £2,700 per unit.”

Declan Murphy, director of Brian Conneely, said: “The strengths and expertise of both companies complement each other well. Our experience as a successful construction specialist in the country, coupled with SG Modular’s proven track record in modular systems, enables us together to drive the growth of MMC.
“With our joint approach, we can quickly scale up production and increase efficiency in this developing market.”
