Birmingham City Council is preparing a modular housing pilot to help free up sites where traditional construction is deemed too difficult or expensive.
The council is preparing to launch its BMHT Modular development programme in spring 2019.
It will involve the construction of around 50 homes using both volumetric and modular solutions, with a larger roll out programme expected to follow in 2020.
The search is now on for contractors to build a pre-designed series of around five archetypes that have already been designed by the council, according to a prior information notice lodged in the Official Journal of the European Union (OJEU).
The contractor will also need to be prepared to undertake associated groundworks, including all utility connections and associated landscaping, offering a turnkey approach to providing homes ready for occupation.
